Bohol Philippines Resort | Historical View near Sherwood Bay Resort

 

BACLAYON CHURCH

Is considered to be the oldest stone church in the Philippines it is the Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in Baclayon town of Bohol. The Baclayon Church is one of the best preserved churches build by the Jesuit in the region, even though in the 19th century, the AugustinianRecollects added a new frontage and a number of stone buildings that now surround the church. The original Spanish missionaries or doctrineros in the region, Fr. Juan de Torres and Fr. Gabriel Sanchez, first settled in Baclayon in 1595. Shortly after their arrival, a visita was erected on the spot. Although Baclayon was the first seat of the Spanish Jesuit missionaries, fright of Moro mauraders soon forced them to move their command center more inland, to Loboc. Only in 1717, Baclayon became a parish, and construction of a new church commenced. The church was created from coral stones. The workers used bamboo to move and lift the stones in position, and they used millions of white egg as to cement the stones together. The existing building was finished in 1727. The Baclayon Church is about 7 kilometers drive from Tagbilaran City.

LOBOC CHURCH

Is the Church of San Pedro in the town Loboc Bohol. Loboc church is the second oldest church in Bohol constructed in 1608, but quickly reduced to ashes. In 1638, a stronger one was build. Positioned near the river, lot of floods arrived the church has still survived. Inside the church, you can view some extraordinary naive paintings on the ceiling. With a three storey convent, a Spanish fleece of arms can be found in stonewall at the entrance of the convent. The church has two porticos, the Jesuit-built Baroque façade which is decorated with unfinished medallions depicting saints, and the neoclassical portico added by the Recollects. The Loboc Church is about 24 kilometers drive from Tagbilaran City.

BLOOD COMPACT SITE

The one of the historical place of Bohol the “BLOOD COMPACT SITE” The Blood Compact Commemorative Shrine is located in Barangay Bool, Tagbilaran City. This historical incident happened on March 16, 1565 is celebrated every year in Bohol as the Sandugo Festival in July. A symbol which identifies the spot where Datu Sikatuna, a native chieftain, forged a Blood Compact with Don Miguel Lopez de Legazpi on behalf of the King of Spain, for the purpose of nurturing friendly relations between the countries. The statuette representing this historical promise of friendship is made by National Artist, Napoleon Abueva, a Boholano himself.

PUNTA CRUZ WATCH TOWER

The watchtower in Punta Cruz, is located in the town of Maribojoc Bohol 14 kilometers drive to Tagbilaran City. The watchtower created with stone wherein a wooden cross is planted in a slightly depressed area in front of the tower. According to myth, the cross has been delighted with a mysterious predict that had saved many people from the ruins of pirates. The cross is said to expand its arms to the sea, preventing intruders. The windows of the tower is facing nearby islands Cebu and Siquijor and the Mindanao Sea, served as a lookout for pirates.
